Hello, I just finished setting up a new full mirror. Naturally, it runs Gentoo Linux on an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+. The files are served off a RAID-0 volume, Apache2 does http and vsftpd does ftp. The machine has a 1G-NIC, the data center has multiple connections to several backbones, adding up to 9Gbps. The data center is located in Nuremberg, Germany. The URLs are http://gentoo.mneisen.org ftp://ftp.mneisen.org/gentoo At the moment, both services are not limited in any way. I would be glad to hear from you and see this mirror added to your pool. If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards Martin Eisenhardt
Hello, I have announced this mirror in my blog (see http://node-0.mneisen.org/2006/09/23/neuer-mirror-fur-gentoo-online-new-gentoo-mirror-online/ for further information) to make it available to "early adaptors" :-D Please do not feel hurried by this, although I would appreciate a rough estimation of when you consider to add this mirror. Kind regards Martin Eisenhardt
The http mirror looks okay (slight lag) * Timestamp on gentoo.mneisen.org is Tue, 10 Oct 2006 01:08:06 +0000 * Current time in UTC is Tue Oct 10 05:12:35 UTC 2006 I can't connect to the ftp mirror. Also, would be nice to have consistent URLs, but it's not a requirement. Apologies for the delay in getting to the bug.
Hello, Regarding the HTTP-Mirror: The server synchronizes every 4 hours with ftp.ussg.iu.edu via rsync. Since the timestamp is recreated only every hour (at least it seems so), there is a maximum lag of 4+1=5 hours. I will change the sync interval to 2 hours so the new mirror will not lag any more. Regarding the FTP-Mirror: vsftpd was not configured to start automatically after restart - blame it on me (shame on me :-D). I reconfigured and started it, so you should be able to connect to it now. Consistent names are a bit of a problem since gentoo.mneisen.org is a CNAME and a virtual host, so it is easy to have distfiles/ etc. in the root of this httpd. I might want to use the vsftpd for other data as well, so I cannot have the gentoo tree starting at tree, I depend on the /gentoo subdirectory. Does vsftpd know about virtual hosts? If so (and I will look it up today), I could reconfigure and change the URL depending on whether you would like to see it or not. Kind regards Martin Eisenhardt

* Timestamp on ftp.mneisen.org is Wed, 06 Dec 2006 02:08:13 +0000 * Current time in UTC is Wed Dec 6 05:44:25 UTC 2006 Both FTP and HTTP look fine. Shall run a few more checks before adding you in.
Looks good. * Timestamp on gentoo.mneisen.org is Sun, 07 Jan 2007 02:08:09 +0000 * Current time in UTC is Sun Jan 7 07:29:50 UTC 2007 I'll add you in, What would you like to be listed as?

Simply list me as "mneisen.org (Germany/http)" and "mneisen.org (Germany/ftp)", that's enough for my ego :-D If anything changes, I'll let you know. Now, let's see how this new mirror is coming along.
Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! For Infrastructure, Shyam Mani

(In reply to Stefan Kost from comment #10) It was removed from our listings a while ago.
