The current version of Gnutu in portage (2.0) won't compile with a newer Mono, due to a deprecated "Mono.Posix" namespace. I have tried the new version 2.5, and it compiles fine, at least on my machine. I've got an updated ebuild, but I haven't tested it enough to feel comfortable attaching it.
tar xzvf gnutu-2.5.tar.gz gzip: stdin: not in gzip format tar: Child returned status 1 tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors I can't even get it to unpack to check for changes..
That's curious. I just downloaded and extracted it, and it worked with no errors...

I confirm. I'll attach an updated ebuild. Everybody, please excuse me for reanimating the dead but in this case it truly seemed the right thing to do.
