As far as i know, the maintainer was complaining about some issues with >=ieee80211-1.2.14. That's why it's masked! Actually, the maintainer is waiting for upstream to release a new major version - something like ieee80211-2.0 i think ... But if ipw2200 1.1.4 does work with ieee80211-1.2.13, then i don't see any reason for not putting it into portage.
I just commited net-wireless/ieee80211-1.2.15 and net-wireless/ipw2200-1.2.0 to the tree. They are currently masked since I can't say yet if they work or if they are going to mess around with stuff even more than before (see the ieee80211 breakage). I suggest anyone keen enough can test them by unmasking those packages via package.unmask.

Works for me too, at least the same way it used to be with previous versions. I use WPA2-PSK with CCMP+TKIP.
