One day, suddenly after update, xmms stopped working. Since then whenever I type xmms in console I get this bash-2.05b$ xmms Available CPU flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm and then I can ctrl-c it, but next time I try (until reboot) the xmms hangs and cant ctrl-c it. I have tried reemerging xmms. I had alsa installed when this happened, but not configured(see one of the alsa threads with my address spundun@isi.edu on the gentoo mailing list) So I removed alsa and re emerged all the packages that had alsa dependency hardcoded in it (due to a mere presence of alsa when i emerged them first) still the same thing. Then I did emerge --emptytree xmms . And still the same thing. Also right now I tried xmms again and it gave the same message and after leaving it like that for some time if I try to ctrl-c it now, its hung and doesnt return command prompt. At the same time I am able to play mp3s using mpg123 on the system even after a hung xmms right now. Lemme know if you need more info. Thanx Spundun
do you have avi-xmms installed? I sometimes have crashes with that program. I am currently using the latest build of xmms w/alsa without any problems... both the oss and alsa-xmms plugins work beautifully for output. do you have permission to the audio device? are you part of the audio group?
apologize for not updating the bug, I debugged it and as you said, found problems in the avi-xmms plugin. I unmerged it and now itworks fine. Thanx a lot Any idea if gentoo should mask avi-xmms? Spundun
I have masked the avi-xmms package.
