Description Mark Wagner 2006-09-07 20:11:32 UTC
When emerging sys-apps/hal-0.5.7-r3, the install fails during the ">>> Merging sys-apps/hal-0.5.7-r3 to /" step.

The tail end of the emerge output:

>>> /etc/init.d/hald
--- /etc/dev.d/
--- /etc/dev.d/default/
>>> /etc/dev.d/default/hal-unmount.dev
--- /lib/
--- /lib/udev/
>>> /lib/udev/hal_unmount
--- /media/
!!! Failed to chown/chmod/unlink in movefile()
!!! /media/.keep
!!! [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/media/.keep'

I suspect this is because I've already got a hard drive mounted at /media

So unmount it and try again?

Yep, that fixed the problem. Now all I have to do is figure out where to put my MP3 and movie collection now that /media is unavailable.
