Sorry if this is a dup (I searched, really..) but gcc 4.1.1-r1 just took a dump: make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/build/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/32/libstdc++-v3/include' config.status: executing default commands make[3]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/build/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3/include' cd /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/gcc-4.1.1/libstdc++-v3 && /bin/sh /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/gcc-4.1.1/missing --run automake-1.9 --foreign --ignore-deps include/Makefile automake-1.9: no Automake input file found for `include/Makefile' automake-1.9: no input file found among supplied arguments make[3]: *** [/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/gcc-4.1.1/libstdc++-v3/include/Makefile.in] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/build/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3/include' /bin/sh /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/gcc-4.1.1/mkinstalldirs x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty ; \ rm -f x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/Makefile || : ; \ cp multilib.out x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/multilib.out /bin/sh: /var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/gcc-4.1.1/mkinstalldirs: No such file or directory cp: cannot create regular file `x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/multilib.out': No such file or directory make[2]: *** [x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/multilib.out] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/build' make[1]: *** [all] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gcc-4.1.1-r1/work/build' make: *** [profiledbootstrap] Error 2 !!! I'm compiling gcc-4.1.1-r1 right now, but have you tried with saner c{xx}flags. I've checked the ebuild and it doesn't seem to filter flags so please try again?
trying glib-2.12.3 right now, but assuming it wokrs I'll give gcc another try with less "interesting" cflags... anything in particular you think I should chuck? Also-- like I said gcc 4.1.1 (not -r1) worked no problem... W
Created attachment 95926 [details] emerge --info ok just to confirm, gcc-4.1.1-r1 compiled cleanly here
Hmm, I tried again, using your CFLAGS on the command line. It still crashed, although it seemed to take longer. Now that i think about it, does gcc compile 2x? Maybe the second time it reverted to the make.conf values... damn. No one else on the forum seems to have this error. Guess i'll try the "safe" cflags in /etc/make.conf and rebuild again...
Well, I can confirm that the problem was the CFLAGS. Using CFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8 -pipe" in /etc/make.conf fixed the problem. Don't know why 4.1.1 worked and 4.1.1-r1 didn't, but there you have it. Closing.
