Following guide to upgrade to new gcc-4.1 from gcc-3.4.6 and new glibc-2.4. Everything going good so far except for xmms-arts failure twice. Only thing have found so far suggest to remerge arts. Had kde-base/arts-3.5.4-r1 installed, so remerged it and still failed again on xmms-arts. Output of failure: ------------------------------------------------ checking for aRts - version >= 0.9.5... no *** The artsc-config script installed by aRts could not be found. *** If aRts was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the ARTSC_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to artsc-config. configure: error: *** aRts >= 0.9.5 not installed - please install first *** !!! Created attachment 95884 [details] /var/tmp/portage/xmms-arts-0.7.1-r2/work/arts_output-0.7.1/config.log xmms-arts-0.7.1-r1 is still installed, just the remerge fails and the r2. Will try again after rest or more of the upgrade it done.
This junk is not maintained by KDE (and just needs to die a painful death).
arts or the plugin? I can really ignore it if that is the case and nothing is 'really' broken. I use alsa, but can't seem to get completely away from arts. Tried and some things don't work. I will see when all done if everything seems ok. The r1 is still installed, but if this is going to be in portage then will have to make use of /etc/portage.mask. Would be better than if removed from portage. I checked and what it's looking for is in /usr/kde/3.5/bin/artsc-config and works. Don't seem to find one for 3.4, and haven't removed 3.4 yet. Name change or location change? Not finding another on my system. Have to go to work so can look any longer today. So, if you want to drop this let me know, but if do, think it should be removed for portage or something.
(In reply to comment #3) > arts or the plugin? Well, both :P I meant xmms here, arts will die in KDE 4 (not so near unfortunately). > Don't seem to find one for 3.4, and haven't removed 3.4 yet. You'd really be better off with just one KDE version installed, can give it a try at least and remove KDE 3.4.
Working now. I just moved the package arts_output-0.7.1 to my home folder to start investigating and ran ./configure and it found artsc-config this time. So emerged it and emerged fine this time. Just one of those major upgrade things. Oh, still have the other kde on cause still doing the gcc4.1 upgrade and emerge world. Come home after work and fine it sitting there waiting for some package that didn't emerge. Thankfully, most of them are. :) Closing bug.
