Description Olivier Reisch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-26 08:43:44 UTC
Q: When using OpenGL DRI in XFree or playing movies, the system sometimes
freezes hard unexpectedly.

A: Your system may not cope properly with AGP support. The easiest solution is
to add the following line to the "Device" section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
file:

Option "ForcePCIMode"

can you clarify what you mean by 'system' ? is this a software or hardware
issue? ie, does it occur on all AGP based ppc machines?
Comment 2 Olivier Reisch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-28 02:45:17 UTC
System = kernel/XFree drivers. In fact it will probably work fine with a new
kernel (Gerk is working on it) and XFree 4.3. Yet, I have seen a lot of crashes
due to AGP enabled in kernel and XFree in the past, so we want to add this item
to offer the solution to the people who meet such problems but do not
necessarily want to recompile their kernel to take AGP stuff out.

added to the ppc faq.
