Description Thomas Cort (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-31 11:21:33 UTC
The 2006.1 alpha installcd is missing some kernel options which would make it more useful. I'm opening this bug so that we can remember these for the 2007.0 release.

CONFIG_PCNET32
The PCI SCSI controller that came with my AlphaStation 500 has a network port on it. "AMD PCnet32 PCI support" (CONFIG_PCNET32) is needed to get the network interface working.

CONFIG_PPP
rp-pppoe is included on the installcd, but it doesn't work because PPP support isn't in the kernel. This is needed by some DSL users. The largest DSL provider in Canada (Sympatico) uses PPPoE.

Tobias has added this options to our release material for 2007.1.

I put a fixed here, you only have to wait.
