weird symptoms--strong freeze of X server and system. repeatable. first I thought it was overheating. could not log in remotely anymore. then I happened to have a remote shell login open, and saw the system was still alive---but even killing the X server (from a remote location) would not reboot the system. solution: apparently, you need to tell the xorg driver Option "AGPMode" "4" and all the trouble goes away.
