Description Jared B. 2006-08-25 23:12:01 UTC
I've updated the ebuild for media-sound/audiocompress and created a new patch file to make esd optional rather than required. It works by commenting out the two lines in the AudioCompress Makefile, as per the instructions in the file.

The XMMS plugin works perfectly fine without it. I'm not sure what functionality may be lost, but for users that only use it for the XMMS plugin, installing esound is unnecessary overhead.

I'm requesting that this be added to portage.

Has anyone taken a look at this? Is there any more information I can/should provide?

Anyone? Bueller?

Don't mean to bump for the sake of bumping, but it's been two full months and I haven't even seen an acknowledgement.

Btw, if it's the XMMS comment that's disuading inclusion of this patch, this plugin is also used by audacious, so there's still plenty of benefit to be had.
