I know 1.2.1 is marked stable now, so I understand if this gets WONTFIX. I tried to simply copy the 1.0.1 ebuild, but there are some patches involved and I didn't know which ones still need to be applied. I'd appreciate it if a mozilla guru could create a new ebuild.
Is it possible to maintain a stable mozilla tree to accommodate for version 1.0.2 as well the more recent bleeding edge tree (1.2.1 & 1.3)? 1.0.2 is renowned for its light weight and stability. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this issue.
Created attachment 9687 [details] ebuild for mozilla 1.0.2 This is a "works for me" ebuild. I'm using it to type this on x86. I haven't tested it extensively. Changes from the last 1.0.1 ebuild: * Updated the Enigmail and IPC versions to the latest ones which the Enigmail website says works with mozilla-1.0.2. * Removed all the gcc-2.9.5 specific patches. * Used the "mozilla-new-freetype2" patch which has been sitting in the files directory but is not used in any of the ebuilds in my system. This patch is necessary to compile mozilla-1.0.2 against the version of freetype which is on my system (running xfree-4.2.1-r2). * Ignored the tarball of patches which is used by the 1.0.1 ebuild. I guessed that maybe these patches reflected changes made by the mozilla team to the 1.0.x branch. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. This ebuild also reflects the following proposal: The patch named "mozilla-1.0.1-platform.patch" should be renamed/copied to "mozilla-1.0.x-platform.patch", so that this ebuild can more easily be reused for later 1.0.x releases. (It's not really an issue, I guess it just reflects what I was doing at the time. :) Can someone tell me if there is something we can do to get anti-aliasing into this build? I went from 1.2.1 down to this version, and it was immediately noticable how jaggy the fonts are, although it's harder to notice now that I've gotten more used to it.
feedback only ... I'm using mozilla 1.0.2 built via this ebuild on 2 machines for more than a week now without problems -- only the browser is used (no mail, composer, ...). The compiler was gcc 2.95.3 (still a default-1.0-profile).
Old bug, mozilla 1.0.2's time has long past
