Is this problem still occuring? One problem I see in the config.log is that you have openssl-0.9.7 installed, and ld is looking for 0.9.8. This doesn't explain the headers missing though.
nxssh (and other NX split packages) have been removed from the tree in favor of net-misc/nx, so fixed!
