Hello, When I boot from RC2 basic cd with or without parameters the process hangs on the very first step on choosing keymaps. As a result, I am unable to install gentoo and have to hard reset. This does not happen with rc1 cd which I went back to in order to install Gentoo. So presumably this would only have to be addressed for rc2 and future releases. My Dell Dimension 8250 hardware specs are as follows: P42.66GHz, HD 120GB HD, 512MB RDRAM, GeForce2MX420, NEC DVD- ReWriter, DVD Reader Drive, Floppy drive. If you need further information please do contact me. Also, I have heard this problem occurring on Dell Inspiron 8200 laptops too. Do you think it is something to do with Dell Bios? Many thanks. Dhruba Bandopadhyay.
I forgot to say that the Dell Dimension 8250 has a Intel 850E chipset motherboard. Many thanks. Dhruba Bandopadhyay.
Hello, Having installed gentoo using rc1 basic cd (since rc2 hung) I rebooted the computer. After having loaded completely with text login once again the system freezes. The keyboard (standard dell ps2) does not respond although everything looks normal on the screen and the caps lock, num lock lights do not respond. I can't tell if it's the keyboard or the system that's frozen but certainly the system cannot be accessed directly. I was able to ssh into the computer and work fine from there but didn't really know what was causing the problem so was not able to rectify it. So, until the issue with the hang after rc1 install and hang during booting off rc2 cd are resolved I am unable to work with gentoo at all on this machine and would appreciate any comments that you may have.
Well, after spending long hours experimenting I'm glad to say I have founds ways to deal with following problems. (1) keyboard hangs when usb mouse driver enabled in kernel (2) rc2 cd hangs So the status of this bug fix can safely be changed to fixed. I would do it but those options aren't there anymore below. If there are other with the same make and model of machine I'd be glad to help.
