Was there a reason why dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-1.5.28.ebuild was removed from the portage tree? I'd like to get it back in, if possible. sasl-1 is still viable if you want to have sasl authentication using pam libraries only, without running saslauthd or authdaemond! sasl-2 does not support this option. In fact, I quite like it because I can put the following in /usr/lib/sasl/Sendmail.conf, compile Sendmail with sasl-1 support, and have SMTP Authentication work without having to run saslauthd or authdaemond. ---8<----- pwcheck_method: PAM mech_list: plain login --->8----- Of course, to allow Sendmail to be compiled with sasl-1 support, Sendmail's ebuild will have to be modified to be able to support either sasl-1 or sasl-2 through use flags, which might suck if people don't want to add yet another use flag. I've built an overlay to be able to support this on my own, but why not let the rest of the world have the choice too? :)
There's never been such ebuild in portage, and 1.5.27 has been removed 3 years ago and is certainly not coming back. If you like outdated software, grab the ebuilds from http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/dev-libs/cyrus-sasl/?hideattic=0
Uhm, it was stuffed into the attic 21 months ago, not 3 years ago. Yeah, it's been a little while, but it's not outdated. Sendmail still supports it. Obviously I've already yanked it out for my own purposes. Did you read everything I said? For what it's worth, I'll post a couple ebuilds in case anyone finds this.
