Description Friedrich Göpel 2006-08-23 15:02:45 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.5) KHTML/3.5.4 (like Gecko)
Build Identifier:

The KDE media:/ kioslave and media insertion notification doesn't work anymore
after upgrading to hal-0.5.7.1.
Re-emerging kdelibs doesn't help, downgrading to hal-0.5.7-r3 and restarting
the media manager service fixes this.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.update to hal-0.5.7.1
2.restart hal & kde media services
3.put a cd in the drive, open media:/ and/or notice lack of notification
Actual Results:
empty media:/, no media insertion notification

Expected Results:
work.

hal-device gives lots of information though, so hal itself seems to work at
some level...

Could you attach the output of lshal (it will be a lot)

'lshal > cdrom.txt' (with hal 0.5.7-rX)
'lshal > nocdrom.txt' (with hal 0.5.7.1)

and attach both to this bug as text/plain.

Thanks!

lshal with hal-0.5.7.1

here you go. :)
Comment 4 Daniel Kenzelmann 2006-09-04 08:34:37 UTC
The same problem exists with Nautilus (gnome) which doesn't recognize my external DVD/CD-RW.

the only solution for me at the moment is to mask hal-0.5.7.1
Comment 5 Matteo Azzali (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-05 04:46:47 UTC
Is working here on ~x86 with kde 3.5.4 and
hal-0.5.7.1 USE="acpi crypt -debug -dmi -doc -pcmcia (-selinux)"
I have both kay and the mounted-cd-icon in media:

AMD64 specific issue?
Comment 6 Daniel Kenzelmann 2006-09-05 06:49:55 UTC
not an amd64, i am using Pentium-M,
hal with

USE acpi crypt dmi pcmcia
Comment 7 Matteo Azzali (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-08 05:13:16 UTC
Well, if it's not arch specific I would try to check if config files
are fine or if you two have something else in common (for example Friederich
system has init-ng that's non standard software, do you have it as well?).
This issue persists even in kde-3.5.5? (I switched and my hal still works fine.)

Hmm, I just checked and it works fine now with kde-3.5.5 and hal-0.5.7.1-r1,
so as far as I'm concerned this bug can be closed.
Sorry for the delay.
Btw. I was not using init-ng when this occured, only the overlay was leftover.
Comment 9 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-11-15 12:55:47 UTC
This should be fixed with KDE 3.5.5. Please test.
