Could you attach the output of lshal (it will be a lot) 'lshal > cdrom.txt' (with hal 0.5.7-rX) 'lshal > nocdrom.txt' (with hal 0.5.7.1) and attach both to this bug as text/plain. Thanks!
Created attachment 94968 [details] lshal with hal-0.5.7-r3
Created attachment 94969 [details] lshal with hal-0.5.7.1 here you go. :)
The same problem exists with Nautilus (gnome) which doesn't recognize my external DVD/CD-RW. the only solution for me at the moment is to mask hal-0.5.7.1
Is working here on ~x86 with kde 3.5.4 and hal-0.5.7.1 USE="acpi crypt -debug -dmi -doc -pcmcia (-selinux)" I have both kay and the mounted-cd-icon in media: AMD64 specific issue?
not an amd64, i am using Pentium-M, hal with USE acpi crypt dmi pcmcia
Well, if it's not arch specific I would try to check if config files are fine or if you two have something else in common (for example Friederich system has init-ng that's non standard software, do you have it as well?). This issue persists even in kde-3.5.5? (I switched and my hal still works fine.)

(I switched and my hal still works > fine.) > Hmm, I just checked and it works fine now with kde-3.5.5 and hal-0.5.7.1-r1, so as far as I'm concerned this bug can be closed. Sorry for the delay. Btw. I was not using init-ng when this occured, only the overlay was leftover.
This should be fixed with KDE 3.5.5. Please test.
