The WLAN-Mini-PCI-card used is an "AIRONET Wireless Communications Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b". E.g. the command to set the essid «iwconfig eth1 essid nameOfWlan» is not working anymore. In order to make it work again you have to downgrade to a baselayout 1.11.x package - a nice workaround but not exactly a real solution.

baselayout-1.12 turns of txpower when the interface is taken down. We do this to save on power in laptops. Either define your wireless config in /etc/conf.d/net or turn it back on manually like so iwconfig eth1 txpower auto Re-open if you disagree
