Hi, couldn't find a gentoo bug for this, but basically the behaviour is: - bonobo-activation-server locks up, taking 100% cpu - various applications won't start (evolution, gnome dialogs, etc) - killing bonobo-activation-server "fixes" the problem temporarily happens for me with gnome-base/libbonobo-2.14.0 It has been reported here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337597 see Comment #33 from Gustavo Carneiro and a fix is finally in cvs: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/libbonobo/activation-server/object-directory-corba.c?r1=1.85&r2=1.86 I couldn't create a working patch, because there appear to be many other changes since the stable 2.14.0 version of object-directory-corba.c Since this is regular behaviour, what's the chances of a new ebuild before the next gnome 2.14.x release? Anything I can do to help? thanks.
Here it's eating up all memory.

I followed the bug to the gnome bugzilla, and made a patch from that, along with a new ebuild to apply the patch. Not sure if the patch has fixed the problem yet, but it emerges fine. I'm going to test for a couple of days and see how it goes
I haven't applied the patch, but mail-notification-3.0 seems to make the bug much less evident. At least I think that's it - I read somewhere that mail-notification helped bring up the issue... (sorry for being vague). I'll wait for gnome 2.16 to see if it's gone.
any problems anyone? I'm not seeing the issue since mail-notification 3.0 / gnome 2.16 :)
Marking fixed as per reporter's comment.
