please note avifile-0.7.27.20030122 is currently in portage. Does this have the same issue? I did not experience any problems building either package though.
Same failure with media-video/avifile-0.7.27.20030122. I have 0.7.25.20030114 working OK
The most stable version for me is also .25... .26 and .27 complete compiling without a problem for me but have problems with actually producing video output. The problems appear to be with upstream and not a problem with gentoo.
