the installcd does not include the net-wireless/rt2x00-2.0.0_beta3 which is needed to get my wireless pcmcia ethernet card working
rt2x00 is no where near stable enough for a livecd. Hoepfully we can get rt2500-1.1.0_beta4 on the livecd though. We should get the other rt**** drivers on the livecd too if they are stable.
net-wireless/rt2500 will be present on both the minimal and Live CDs for the upcoming 2006.1 release.
For x86, that is. I don't know about the other arches.
I've had a LOT of problems with rt2500. It often hangs the kernel during network initialization. The times when it did work I had no problems. rt2x00-2.0.0_beta3 is very close to what is on ubuntu livecd's. It is on the gnewsense livecd, which is a free ubuntu. At least for me on ubuntu livecd's it works fine. Anyway isn't an unstable driver better than no driver at all? It should be possible to turn it off with a kernel option though ideally. Don't know how difficult that is to realize.
We don't add unstable software by policy. Feel free to REOPEN this once the software is stable for 2007.0's release.
scratch my comment about ubuntu using rt2x00 and most everything else I said. They are using rt2500-1.1.0_beta3 and I've had nothing but kernel oopsen from rt2x00_beta3.
