This is a bit odd, but probably related to the recent update to the vmware.eclass, and may get resolved when bug 139134 gets fixed.  I'll try to keep you posted...

This should be fixed since there are now newer ebuilds which all use update104 anyway.  Please REOPEN if you're still experiencing issues, as we're pretty sure that this is FIXED.
