I've recently been fighting to try to get mangle support out of 2.7.17-gentoo-r4, and have run the menuconfig search function several times to try to find the components I need. Problem is, that when I do and I follow the tree, it doesn't seem to exist. This seems to be pointing to an out-dated part of the kernel config system, and since I'm using the gentoo-sources kernel instead of vanilla, I would report it here, since it is a very annoying problem.
Please add some details to your report - which option are you searching for? Which parts of the tree don't seem to exist?
I was looking for mangle support. It had mentioned going through IPv6 to enable part of it, but all there was was a single entry. This is apprently an issue with how things are sorted to list out where to go to enable things. I was able to find mangle support, but it required going through I think it was Netfilter, enabling part of it, then going through IP to enable to support itself.
You are still lacking details: which _exact_ option are you searching for? Which parts of the tree don't seem to exist? Please give us something to work from. That said, it is perfectly reasonable that search results do not appear in the menu. Each option has dependencies which must be satisified before the option becomes available. The search feature is extremely useful for this kind of thing. For example, searching for IP_NF_ARP_MANGLE tells me that that option depends on NET && INET && NETFILTER && IP_NF_ARPTABLES and the option is not visible until the dependencies are all met. You can search for each dependency to find its location, etc.
