Description Josef Kovacs 2006-08-11 19:20:11 UTC
After a upgrade to baselyout-1.12.4-r2 i can't start /etc/init.d/courier-imapd nor /etc/init.d/serial. I get no segnificant error message, only the message that the service failed to start. Wow ... and where can i start to looking for the error?
The messageges:

platon ~ # /etc/init.d/serial start
 * Service serial starting
 * ERROR: serial failed to start
platon ~ # /etc/init.d/courier-imapd start
 * Service courier-imapd starting
 * Starting courier-imapd ...
 * ERROR: courier-imapd failed to start

The log files say the same.
By the way, /etc/init.d/courier-authlib starts like expected.

Dear devs, i appreciate your hard work, realy, but it's not funny when a new stable! core ebuild blows up an otherwise stable system. That's not the way it should be. And little more meaningful error messages would be nice ... :-/
Thanks.

courier-imap is Bug 98745 (and marked WORKSFORME, if it doesn't, go complain there). Don't know what's "serial-init-skripts", reopen with exact ebuild name and version of ebuild that installed the broken script.

Also, this is not a baselayout bug.

See above.

Ah, o.k., thanks for the tip. I will complain there. But it was not the courier-imap-ebuild the gone stable, it was baselayout. Till this upgrade everything have worked fine and courier-imap started without complains. So is it not a baselayout bug?

I'm going to wear sackcloth and ashes. The /etc/init.d/serial script was a legacy from an unknown ebuild in 2004 to bring the serial interface up. I just kicked the script and the interface still works thanks udev. Sorry for the inconvenience in this case.
