KatchTV is an "Internet TV" application (similar to Democracy Player) for KDE, otherwise known as a broadcatcher. It makes it easy to subscribe to "TV" channels from all over the internet in the form of podcasts, so that you can browse channels, download shows, and watch them, all from one convenient interface. Pepends on: - PyQT - PyKDE - Kaffeine (at least so it says on kde-apps.org)
These are the requirements quoted from the README file in the latest KatchTV tarball: Requirements ------------ This is a PyKDE app, so you'll need the following installed: * python (2.4+ advised) * PyKDE and PyQt. You'll also need a KDE movie player, which is capable of embedding as a KPart into KHTML-based browsers. That generally means on of: * Kaffeine * KMPlayer * Mozplugger Kaffeine seems to work best for me, although I haven't tried Mozplugger at all. Note that you can individually choose which embedded player will be used, from the file associations section of Konqueror's preferences. Just go the embedded tab for a media file type, and change the preferred KPart order. IMPORTANT: when I say that kaffeine works best for me, I mean that KMPlayer seems to be fond of crashing KatchTV. That's not KatchTV's fault, as far as I can tell. Use kaffeine instead, as instructed above.
I "installed" KatchTV-60 (the latest at the time of writing) on my system along with the latest stable Python, PyQT, Kaffeine and testing kde-base/PyKDE (3.5.0). It works. It's was just a matter of unpacking the tarball and running the program.
Seems a very cool addition to portage... :-)
0.86 came out and uncompressing the tarball and running it works just fine on amd64.
