The current icon quake3-bin.xpm does not include any transparency.  This problem was addressed and fixed with the quake3 ebuild here:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50806

Please use the icon from that bug.

we punted the icon on purpose, we dont have copyright on the original image to do this
