In the archive is a folder src/contrib/org/apache/commons/httpclient/contrib . It would be nice if the ebuild could build a commons-httpclient-contrib.jar from it as well. (It is for example needed if you want to build ganttproject from source without jars).
And maybe introduce the examples USE flag to prevent examples from being built but not installed.

The ebuild has been committed to the main tree so marking this as fixed.

Reopening, had to remove the contrib in 3.0.1-r1 for bug 176133. Nothing in tree depended on it. Should make a separate package for it as dependency of whatever will need it.
