it seems that the ftp site, xanim.va.pubnix.com is now password protected (if
someone could please confirm this), so that emerge kde-multimedia is unable to
conclude successfully.

of course, that would be for the latest kde ebuilds :)

This is an xanim issue not a kde one. Please reassign as appropriate.

I this still an issue?  I see that xanim's ebuild uses the gentoo mirrors
for pulling the tarballs.
