Description Andrei Slavoiu 2006-08-05 11:34:10 UTC
The installer does not have a step in which to choose the desired profile for the new system. This is specificaly important for 2006.1 release which adds specialized desktop and server profiles.

That's not really a "bug". More a lack of a feature.
Comment 2 Andrei Slavoiu 2006-08-05 11:57:04 UTC
You're right. I changed the severity to "Enhancement".
Still, choosing the profile is one of the most important steps of the Gentoo installation.

It's not feasible to handle profile selection in the installer frontends. It will be useful for network deployments where the admin can select all the options in a more fine-grained way, but it doesn't make sense for people doing basic installs with the installer. If you want to change the profile, install by hand or use the network deployment code when it's working
