My kernel won't boot with genkernel 3.4.0's initrd. When I type the root password and drop into the busybox shell, I see that /dev/mapper doesn't exist, and commands such as "vgchange -a y" fail because of that. Tried kernels 2.6.16-beyond4.1 and 2.6.17-beyond2.2 with identical result. I'll attach the initrd file for Chris Gianelloni (hope it helps).
Bugzilla refuses it because it's 1400kB. Should/may I e-mail it ?
Same thing here - no /dev/mapper, genkernel-3.3.11d works well though.
Igal: I feared I would be the only one - thanks for reporting ;-) What kernel version do you have ? My GRUB entry is: title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.17-beyond2.2 kernel (hd0,1)/boot/kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.17-beyond2.2 root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc real_root=/dev/mapper/z1_hdd-GentooLinux nodevfs dolvm2 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr:3,vtotal:128 initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.17-beyond2.2 root (hd0,1)
Removing myself from CC... Also, I don't want the initramfs image. What options are you using to build your kernel? What options are you using at boot? Can you verify this with a kernel that is actually supported by Gentoo, such as gentoo-sources?
Feel free to REOPEN this once you are sure you've followed the directions given by genkernel once the kernel is built, as well as if you can duplicate it on supported sources. We simply don't support sources that aren't in the tree.
(Actually this is a dupe of bug #142775 it seems...)
