The ebuilds development-sources-2.5.59-r1 and r2 both depend on the ~arch-masked module-init-tools ebuilds. Therefore, emerge bombs for people running development-sources but without the ~arch (i.e. ~x86) keyword set: # emerge --update --pretend world These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating world dependencies \ !!! all ebuilds that could satisfy ">sys-apps/module-init-tools-0.9.8" have been masked. !!! (dependency required by "sys-kernel/development-sources-2.5.59-r2" [ebuild])
any reason the kernels are depending on this package ? they shouldnt be ...
without module-init-tools you cannot use modules on kernels greater than 2.5.45... it is therefore a semi-valid rdepend...
while this is a semi valid rdepend, module-init-tools is a kind of invasive package. It overwrites (so that it is still usable) modutils, which is not something that i am a big fan of. I would rather (right now) put an einfo/ewarning message and tell them to install it if they use modules....
agreed... I'll remove that rdepend for the time being. after class today... *runs*
*shrug* deal with it if it isn't already fixed...
