Description Cayenne Boyer 2006-08-03 23:29:57 UTC
Boot fails on PPCs with dead clock batteries, as per bug 139950.

Previous liveCDs such as 2006.0 don't run into this problem but with 2006.1 boot fails with an error about being unable to set the hardware clock, then prompts for a root password for maintainance which is impossible as no root password has been set.

LiveCD: 4ab1a9f640eb2a511aa42d2f04f2ab14 install-ppc-minimal-2006.1.iso
Computer: 300mhz iBook G3 (with dead battery)

I had that problem with my Pegasos, but solved it with building the RTC-driver into the kernel instead of using a module. But that is another kernel (the pegasos-kernel on the CD). The apple-kernel includes that by default.

I think this is a problem with the recent change in the RTC-driver with the 2.6.17-kernel. On the other hand it's not our problem, if you have broken hardware.
