While the video card is configured I get this message:

opengl-update is deprecated and is just a frontend to the opengl
eselect module.  In the future, opengl-update will be removed
from portage.  Please see 'eselect opengl help'


Btw, is there any reason to configure OpenGL at all for the vesa driver?

This will be fixed in the next build.

Really, since everything is built with USE="opengl" we need to configure opengl for everything, including VESA.  The main thing is that it really is configuring software opengl via mesa, anyway.
