Could dev-java/ibm-jdk-bin-1.4.2.04 and dev-java/ibm-jre-bin-1.4.2.04 be marked stable. The current stable version can no longer be downloaded from IBM's website which makes this very annoying. I have been using 1.4.2.04 for some time and have not had any problems.
I think the best thing to do is to move up to the latest release for 1.4.2 which is SR5 or 1.4.2.5 This would mean that it would be less confusing as IBM's website is a very confusing jumble of links that is very had to follow.
1.4.2.5 can't be marked stable until the rest of the new Java system goes stable, so it'd probably be better to stablize 1.4.2.04 first, or maybe do a bump to use the rpms like 1.4.2.5 does.
This would also work, as the headache seems to arise from the fact that the tgz files are not versioned like the RPMs are.
I would like to help change 1.4.2.04 to use the RPM's. Could someone give me some pointers on how to go about doing that? I looked at the ebuild, and it looks like changing the filenames is a logical first step, but then I am unsure about testing and such.
I was looking at the md5sums for the 1.4.2.04 tgzs and comparing them to what is in the digest files in portage and noticed that the currently available tgz for the JRE is correct but the md5sum for the SDK is incorrect based on what is currently available from IBM. However it does match the sum that is listed in version 1.3 of the digest file for ibm-jdk-bin-1.4.2.04. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or that IBM changed something then reversed the change?
1.4.6.-r4 is the latest stable.
