Description kde123 2003-01-18 11:31:41 UTC
Emerge fails to find Pango. I have the following installed:

opengl-update-1.4 xfree-4.2.1-r2
gtk+-1.2.10-r9 gtk+-2.0.9 openmotif-2.2.2-r1 pango-1.2.0 xft-2.0.1
pkgconfig-0.14.0

The ebuild requires >=x11-libs/pango-1.0.1, so this should be OK.

I've unmerged and emerge pango, but that doesn't help.

Just comment, dont create attachments for everything.

Anyway, can you attach the config.log of the failing configure ?

no, the real config.log in /var/tmp/portage/pango-1.2.0/work/pango-1.2.0 after
the emerge fails.

config.log for gtk+

Cannot supply config.log for pango, since pango does not fail.	config.log for
gtk+ (which fails) attached. The log indicates that the gtk+ emerge is trying
to use a downlevel pango (<1.2.0), but pkg-config pango --modversion results in
1.2.0.	Hope this helps.
Comment 7 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-23 06:35:57 UTC
It looks like a problem with your xft2 ? try reemerging that.

And yes i meant gtk+ log ofcourse, not pango.. duh :/
Comment 8 kde123 2003-01-23 20:49:21 UTC
I emerged xft (2.0.1) again and then pango (1.2.0) again, but emerge gtk+ fails
in the same way as before.
Comment 9 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-24 08:14:25 UTC
do you have mozilla ? what is its exact version ?
Comment 10 kde123 2003-01-24 20:13:06 UTC
I am using mozilla 1.2.1
Comment 11 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-25 06:34:56 UTC
exact _gentoo_version : revision ?
Comment 12 kde123 2003-01-25 08:16:57 UTC
My primary system where the problem exists was installed from the gentoo livecd
1.4_rc1_rc2 on 12/1/2002 but updated frequently. I'm using gcc 3.2.1, glibc
2.3.1-r2, xfree 4.2.1-r2, and mozilla 1.2.1. I don't know what other levels you
need. This is on a PIII-800mz-256M. This system has a lot of software
including xfce, sylpheed, gimp, sane, docbook stuff, but no kde or gnome.

My newer system (athlon-XP 1.8-512M) is installed from the gentoo livecd 1.4_rc2
on 1/19/2003 and is using gcc 2.3.1-r6, glibc 2.3.1-r2, xfree 4.2.1-r2, and
phonix-bin (adds compat libs). Only xfce and sylpheed are installed at this
time. gtk+2.2.0 installs without a hitch on this system!!!

Comment 13 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-25 08:50:04 UTC
mozilla version + revision plz
Comment 14 kde123 2003-01-25 10:39:30 UTC
as stated above at least twice, mozilla 1.2.1.
Comment 15 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-25 11:59:54 UTC
what _revision_ ?

is it r0 ? or is it mozilla-1.2.1-r4 or something ebuild ?
Comment 16 kde123 2003-01-25 12:07:37 UTC
Whatever revision you installed with mozilla-1.2.1.ebuild.
Comment 17 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-25 12:11:39 UTC
that is revision 0, but i needed to know that exactly. Try to remove mozilla and
see if it the gtk+ update works afterwards. You can then upgrade mozilla to a
newer revision btw (r4 or r5 should be good).
Comment 18 kde123 2003-01-25 13:35:58 UTC
ok, but it will be a few days. I am extremely loathe to tinker with mozilla,
since I have all the plugins working for the first time in forever and since
mozilla is a 3+ hour build on my 800Mz machine. Also, this appears to be guess
work, rather than a firm conclusion?
Comment 19 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-25 13:56:00 UTC
educated guess

Comment 21 Robert Jan Schutten 2003-02-07 02:48:19 UTC
I had the same problem:
gtk+-2.2.0 would fail in the configure stage on pango (which was just upgraded to
version 1.2.0). Nothing seemed to work (re-emerging pango did not help). This
was all part of a long "emerge -u world"
Considering the remark on mozilla I upgraded mozilla first (from an older 1.2.1
version to 1.2.1-r5).
This solved the problem...
Now gtk+-2.2.0 is correctly emerged...
