In the chat window, instead of having users displayed like "<user>", I got the brackets '<' and '>' surrounded with undisplayable unicode chars of value |00 08|. This is due to the pevents configuration file generated by xchat-gtk. Don't know yet if my pevents file was corrupted since there is a bug in xchat-gtk making the pevents file generation impossible (I deleted it).
So you consider this an error on your side?
Cannot tell yet. A bug in xchat does not allow me to create the environment where the xchat-gnome bug appeared. If you are really in hurry, I can try older versions of xchat expecting the annoying bug to go away.
xchat 2.6.8-r1 and xchat-gnome 0.15 seems to have fixed this bug.
