Description Stephen Steele 2006-07-20 17:57:20 UTC
using 2006.1 mini iso normal handbook install first time emerge with USE="-doc symlink" emerge gentoo-sources

which ~arch should I use for release testing 2006.1? Anyother make.conf additions I should do?

Are you talking about this?

!!! ARCH is not set... Are you missing the '/etc/make.profile' symlink?
!!! Is the symlink correct? Is your portage tree complete?

If so, that just means that you don't have a portage tree. Unpack a snapshot, run 'emerge --sync', mount it via NFS from another computer, etc.

If you are unsure of how to install from a stage1 tarball, then don't. Otherwise, you should be following the Handbook.

Thanks
Comment 3 Stephen Steele 2006-07-21 06:41:03 UTC
Thank you Andrew. That was it. I made the wrong assumption that during testing emerge --sync was not needed. emerge works fine now. I will continue with testing on stage3-i686-2006.1.tar.bz2

Close this bug.
Steve
