Description Bert Smith 2003-01-17 03:01:12 UTC
When first loading realplayer 8, it asks you to configure it.. you must
enter your email address, country, connection speed etc...
after completing this form, the alpha version freezes up completely
killing it and restarting brings you back to the initial setup... which
just freezes in exactly the same way.
System: Alpha PWS 500/AU (Miata) EV56 cpu, 640mb ram, 18gig Qlogic 1020 SCSI (original DEC)

Greg, thoughts on this?

To see the ebuild and how it's installed: please see:

http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/gentoo-x86/media-video/realplayer/realplayer-8-r4.ebuild?rev=1.6

Thanks much :)

I don't have an Alpha right now to work on. It would help to get an strace or
something equiv to see where it is hanging at.

We have had cases where the install would hang/crash at the end (due to missing
directories sometimes) but had left a good install when it did. You might also
go to the install directory and just see if there isn't an install there.

If there is, running the ./realplay executable should do the rest.

I can reproduce the problem on my box only the first time I start realplay .
The registration box comes up and after I click the Finish button, the process
will freeze (essentially using 100% CPU). I created an strace output and
attached it to this bug. What is different on my box though is that when I start
realplay a second time , ther registration box comes up again but pressing the
Finish button will no longer cause realplay to freeze. In fact it is working
just fine now

Greg, did the strace help?
Comment 6 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-02-09 22:07:23 UTC
Greg, any insight?
Comment 7 Greg Wright 2003-02-10 11:55:47 UTC
I don't see anything in the strace that might point us to the problem. It all looks good up to the point that we get 3 sigints (or one on three threads) and it dies. It was trying to open one of the pref files just before it died (~/.RealNetworks_RealCookies_60). Has anyone tried running the installer in a debugger to see if we can get any info at all from that?
Comment 8 Aron Griffis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-05-27 13:42:03 UTC
Reassigning because Chouser no longer has an Alpha system
Comment 9 Tavis Ormandy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-10 06:56:26 UTC
Ive contacted real.com support, but had no response.

no new version is available, so im assuming this bug isnt going to get fixed.

marking CANTFIX, if anyone can offer any new info please REOPEN.
