hmmm looks like its time to update this engine, can you test it with a later version see if behaves better ?
I've just updated Geramik to its latest version, 0.18. Please test and report problems. "Geramik uses a modified pixmap engine - so I don't think you'd want to use this for plain styles, it'd be too slow." as seen on http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=3952 . This could be the reason why it's "eating" so much memory/ is slow.
