Strange as it may sound, starting blender, and pressing just any button in its GUI, causes the GUI to disappear and blender to hang forever in "D"-state. glxgears (x11-apps/mesa-progs-6.4.2) and media-libs/openinventor-2.1.5.10-r1 seem to work fine though. If this is not fixed by the SMP define fixes in ati-drivers >= 8.34.8 it is most likely an upstream issue. Please use ati's unofficial bugzilla (http://ati.cchtml.com/) and reopen this bug if you think it can be fixed in the ebuild.
