"If you are warned that a new Portage version is available and that you should update Portage, you should ignore it. Portage will be updated for you later on during the installation." I believe this has been overlooked and is incorrect. Portage /will not/ be updated automaticly durning the rest of the Gentoo installation.
It's not a warning but an advice saying that there's no need to update portage at that specific moment, because it can be safely updated later on with other software. Thanks for reporting but i have to close it.

I have to apologize, you were right that this is a remnant of the times of emerge -u world. I fixed it in CVS, thanks for reporting.
