Re-emerge any JDK/JRE you are using and try again.

The JDK/JREs are newly emerged, but I don't use kaffe (see java-config-? output) and the newest version of kaffe in portage is kaffe-1.1.7.
I cannot satisfy the dependency to kaffe-1.4.

Well, there's no such dependency first of all...

Adding maintainer.

I really don't see why it'd be trying to depend on kaffe-1.4. We've since moved to new style virtuals, so this shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Perhaps try to emerge =virtual/jdk-1.4* =virtual/jdk-1.5* ?

There must be some old /var/db/pkg/*/*/PROVIDE files leading to this. This should find them:

find /var/db/pkg -name PROVIDE | xargs egrep 'virtual/jdk|virtual/jre'

To fix it, just delete the contents of those files so that they are empty.

Thank you, this works.
