When I said from the original tarball, I mean the tarball and the security patch at xpdf website, not the gentoo tarball.
Can you please report this upstream on the poppler bugtracker? Gentoo is not working on the poppler code directly, thanks!

Created attachment 135155 [details] ebuild for xpdf-3.02 (without poppler) The new xpdf version solve this. The ebuild work fine for me but don't include any patch (poppler, whatever...) A new location for a test pdf file is http://hdr.undp.org/en/media/hdr05_fr_chapter_41.pdf I guess that we can reopen this bug and add that it block http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=176081
I forget: the sample-xpdfrc file is the same that with xpdf-3.01.
