Description Rastislav Wartiak 2006-07-09 05:01:35 UTC
I'm using it for a month now, no problems found so far.
Comment 1 parena 2006-08-07 10:42:43 UTC
I do have a problem. Everything seems to work fine, until I try to move an email from one folder to another (within the same account).

I set up the account with SSL encryption and "Clear text" as authentication.

kmail gives (popup):
The connection to the server parena was unexpectedly closed or timed out. It will be re-established automatically if possible.

/var/log/dovecot_sys gives:
dovecot: Aug 07 19:37:16 Error: IMAP(parena): file mail-cache-transaction.c: line 709 (mail_cache_add): assertion failed: (fixed_size == (unsigned int)-1 || fixed_size == data_size)
dovecot: Aug 07 19:37:16 Error: child 21396 (imap) killed with signal 6

/var/log/dovecot_info gives:
dovecot: Aug 07 19:37:15 Info: imap-login: Login: user=<parena>, method=PLAIN, rip=10.0.0.1, lip=10.0.0.1, TLS

I use imap over ssl (port 993 for dovecot). I've used it before on my x86 machine without problems, this is a new AMD64 (3800+ X2) machine.

(In reply to comment #1)
I found out it doesn't happen when I move a message from the IMAP account to local. Then I can put it from local back to the IMAP account.

Note: on the new machine, I simply setup dovecot and used a copy of the old maildir.

I have dovecot-1.05_rc5 with maildir and imap/ssl and I can move messages between INBOX and folders without problems using evolution. Have you tried that?
Comment 4 Rastislav Wartiak 2006-08-08 02:24:45 UTC
I'm using beta8 with maildir and Thunderbird and Horde IMP as clients (imap/ssl, imap/tls) and I can move messages around. It deletes (marks for deletion) message in one folder and creates it in another.

But recently, imap process segafaulted couple of times:
imap[...]: segfault at 0000000000000100 rip 000000000044b2cd rsp 00007fffff8dd510 error 4
Comment 5 parena 2006-08-08 03:00:11 UTC
I have tried Thunderbird (x86 system) and it borks as well when I try to move a message. It starts showing "Opening folder ..." and "Connecting ..." in the status bar, realy fast.

Could it have anything to do with openssl or something? USE flags dovecot has during emerge: pam ssl -debug -doc -ipv6 -kerberos -ldap -mbox -mysql -pop3d -postgres -vpopmail

openssl on version 0.9.7j
openssh on version 4.3_p2-r1

I'm starting to think it has something to do with my setup.
Comment 6 Rastislav Wartiak 2006-08-08 03:17:09 UTC
My settings are: ldap mbox mysql pam pop3d ssl vpopmail -debug -ipv6 -kerberos -postgres.
Comment 7 Alastair Tse (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-08 03:25:21 UTC
there's nothing to indicate that it has anything to do with openssl, unless it is segfaulting and that is what the backtrace suggests.

i presume you guys are all running amd64 stable, but have you tried keywording dovecot-1.0_rc5 and seeing whether it has fixed your problems?

Comment 8 Rastislav Wartiak 2006-08-08 03:44:08 UTC
There's no amd64 stable, if I understand that correctly. As the summary says, it's about beta8 that should be newer than rc5. Anyway, yesterday rc6 was released, so I would suggest to move to this version as soon as ebuild is created and published.
Comment 9 Alastair Tse (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-08 03:56:49 UTC
well, if beta8 is broken for you guys, shouldn't you look at further versions to see if the bug is fixed?

I'm just saying, if you guys want it marked amd64 stable, and you see that there is a bug with beta8, then maybe try the other versions on your stable box and figure out which versions work for you. It will help out the devs to get positive reports than negative reports, especially on stable requests. Thanks!
Comment 10 Rastislav Wartiak 2006-08-08 04:10:45 UTC
I'm happy with beta8, it suits my needs. If I find a way to reproduce the forementioned segfault (happened 3x in 2 months), I'll try another version to check.
Comment 11 parena 2006-08-08 04:32:09 UTC
I have tried other versions, including an own ebuild for rc6 (copy of rc5 ebuild), but I keep having the same problem.
Comment 12 parena 2006-08-08 16:03:29 UTC
Problem solved, with thanks to the dovecot mailing list. Because I want from a 32-bit to a 64-bit system, th dovecot indexes weren't completely correct. Removing them ( cd /data/mail; find . -name 'dovecot.index*' -exec rm -f {} \; ) solved the problem, as they got recreated when accessing the folders. NOW, dovecot is stable for me as well. :)
