Description Lasse Lindner 2006-07-08 00:31:11 UTC
please put the "recommended firmware" (http://dl.ivtvdriver.org/ivtv/firmware/firmware.tar.gz) in the ebuild instead of the old ones. i wasn't able to get sound running on a hauppauge PVR 150 until I was told on the ivtv-mailinglist that this is a known issue with the old ones.

They're the exact same thing. Except that they finally got permission to redistribute it in their own tarball. So they broke out only the needed files and stuck them in a tarball. There is no "old" firmware that we're using in Gentoo.

The issue I have with the new tarball is that it's unversioned and when they switch to using a different version of the firmware for the drivers. They'll just update the tarball. Or if a new card comes out with new firmware, they'll just update the tarball. So then it's digest will be different since there's no versioning on it. And it'll break the Gentoo ebuilds.

So long story short, we won't be using the "new" packaging. Because it's broken. Just compare the md5sums of the Gentoo installed versus the recommended on their website. You'll see it's identical.
