Description Stephen Steele 2006-07-06 11:54:54 UTC
I have older PC Dell Poweredge 300, a Pentium3, and used gentoo-nofb nox or gentoo installs and errors out on cannot mount boot cd on hdc. livecd 20030911 P3 v1.4 works fine.
Comment 1 Stephen Steele 2006-07-06 12:06:47 UTC
Just tried x86-mini-2004.3-r1 livecd and same type of error cannot mount cd.

Is the CD-ROM SCSI? If so, you'll need to pass 'doscsi' to the kernel to load the proper modules.
Comment 5 Stephen Steele 2006-07-08 14:10:23 UTC
cd-rom is ide but seems to be interfaced through an adaptec7860 controller. installing Gentoo forum topic number 267325 seems to describe my problem, but is 2 years old. Does another way exist around this problem?

Try booting with doscsi.
Comment 7 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-23 08:55:26 UTC
Since the Adaptec driver is only started with "doscsi" (which I think has changed since 1.4), I'm going to mark this as FIXED. If it is, in fact, not fixed, please REOPEN the bug when you have some time to work with us to troubleshoot it further.
