Description Andreas Schäfer 2006-07-04 05:21:50 UTC
Overview:
=========

Emerging dev-ruby/libxml leaves out the shared object libxml_so.so, so Ruby programs using the library will inevitably fail because they can't find the file.

Steps to Reproduce:
===================

1. Install the library:

  emerge =dev-ruby/libxml-0.3.8

2. Run the tests that come with it (or any other Ruby code that happens to use libxml):

  > cd /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/libxml-ruby-0.3.8/tests/
  > ruby runner.rb

3. Weep at the error message:

/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `gem_original_require': no such file to load -- xml/libxml_so (LoadError)
        from /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `require'
        from ./libxml_test.rb:2
        from /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `require'
        from runner.rb:5

Actual Results:
===============

The library wasn't installed propperly (namely: missing at least the file libxml_so.so)

Expected Results:
=================

The library should have been installed completely so that it can be used.

Additional Builds and Platforms:
================================

Also occurrs on dev-ruby/libxml-0.3.6 (although the missing shared object is named differently: libxml.so)

Additional Information:
=======================

During emerge the shared objects is compiled, but apparently not installed:

Looks a bit strange to me that there's "nothing to be done for 'install'" and that "make clean" gets immediately called.

Any clues? Thanks in advance!

log of the emerge dev-ruby/libxml

This is the complete log I get on the shell when emerging the package
Comment 3 Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-05 21:25:09 UTC
I can't reproduce this. What rubygems version did you use?
Comment 4 Christian Marie (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-29 05:50:27 UTC
Please reply within three days, or this bug will be closed as NEEDINFO.
Comment 5 Richard Brown (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-06 22:35:43 UTC
Please re-open if you continue to have problems with this ebuild. Please note that version 0.3.8.4 is also in CVS and doesn't directly require rubygems.
