Description Thomas Tuttle 2006-07-01 07:46:53 UTC
I have an Intel 855GM graphics chip, I'm using it with the i810 driver, and I just upgraded to Xorg 7.0. When I use certain 3D programs, I get artifacts. Specifically:

In bzflag, the lower-left 640-by-480 region of the screen renders fine, but the rest of it flickers and doesn't display right. If textures are on, they render sporadically; if textures are off, the edges of objects leave trails and "smudges". I've tried it both full-screen and windowed, and the same artifacts appear.

In glxgears, after the window opens in the upper-left corner, it shows only a zoomed-in view of part of the red gear, and part of it is cut away. If I move the window at all, it renders fine.

In nexuiz, the game simply sits at a black screen, and repeatedly prints "^7Image_Resample: 3D resampling not supported" on stdout. (I don't know if it did that before.)

In armagetronad, tuxracer, and all the 3D Xscreensaver demos I tried, nothing is wrong.

Post your 'emerge --info', and attach the output of 'LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo', please.

I have the same hardware but am running X.Org 7.1. bzflag seems to operate fine here.

If you want to give 7.1 a try (I do recommend it - the only reason it's not stable on x86 is because of nVidia/ATI drivers), just add xorg-server and the drivers you use to /etc/portage/package.keywords. There may be a couple other packages you need, but I don't them off the top of my head.
Comment 6 Sérgio Luís 2006-07-01 12:08:05 UTC
Fine here (intel i855), also emerge mesa and mesa-progs that are ~
Comment 7 Thomas Tuttle 2006-07-01 14:05:55 UTC
Under Xorg 7.1... The bzflag issue goes away, but the glxgears issue remains.

Under all versions, it turns out that "nexuiz" hangs but "nexuiz-sdl" doesn't.
Comment 8 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-01 15:15:52 UTC
Make sure you're running the correct version of mesa-progs (6.5).

And the issues with Nexuiz could very well be a bug just with that game. I see that a new version just came out - are you using 2.0?
