Tom-- The error pertains to 1.0.3, which isn't even the version we're emerging. I presume the filesizes and checksums are fine for 1.0.1. So I did a # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild digest # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild manifest (the second command might be redundant, but that's what I did) and then I could continue emergine the dozens of packages needed to migrate to the newly stable modular X.
I had the same issue and the fix seemed to work for me. However, the path to those ebuilds listed isn't accurate, it should be something like: # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild digest # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild manifest and this is what i got for output: # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild digest >>> Creating Manifest for /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11 digest.assumed 1 digest-libX11-1.0.3::libX11-1.0.3.tar.bz2 # ebuild /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11/libX11-1.0.3.ebuild manifest >>> Creating Manifest for /usr/portage/x11-libs/libX11 digest.assumed 1 digest-libX11-1.0.3::libX11-1.0.3.tar.bz2 After that, the fetch worked fine. Thanks.

Should be fixed now.
