However, the ~x86 version, libquicktime-0.9.7-r1 builds fine!

0.9.7-r1 works just fine here.

I have the same problem ... and the same solution

is there any reason to keep the broken version as "stable"?

I also have this problem. Will try a newer version of libquicktime now.
