Can we please get an updated ebuild for Visual Boy Advance? 1.8 was released last October. Thank you!
It would help if there was an ebuild attached.
It would also help to have a meaningful bug summary...
You need to tell us specifically where the Linux version fo vba 1.8.0 is. The only thing found on the website was 1.8.0_beta3 for Windows.
They haven't released Linux binaries in some time. However, from the page I linked you could download the 1.8 source. You can also download the CVS source from: http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=63889 CVS currently has some new features past 1.8 including 64-bit support, optimizations, bug fixes, etc.
It seems that a CVS snapshot ebuild would probably be a good option here.
For what it is worth, I use the CVS snapshot ebuilds that Spacey has been making for Windows and they are pretty nice. I've never made an ebuild but I suppose I can read over the documentation and attempt it myself.
Please reopen when it's really released.
(In reply to comment #7) > Please reopen when it's really released. > It was released over a year ago. Apparently no one reads.
where?
At the url in the url field? http://vba.ngemu.com/ 1.8 was released there on October 1st, 2005. Portage has 1.7.2-r1 I also posted a link to the CVS download, in case someone is interested in a CVS ebuild as well. The CVS source includes a great deal of bugfixes, optimizations, 64-bit support, etc. http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=63889 I used to really love Gentoo, but quite frankly this is the primary reason I left. Every single major distro updates their package repository with new releases. I don't know why the Gentoo team seems unwilling to do so.
that's a beta version. reopen when it's out of beta. Thanks.
(In reply to comment #11) > that's a beta version. reopen when it's out of beta. Thanks. > And 1.7.2-r1 wasn't a beta release? Every release of VBA has been a beta release I do recall. Nevermind that the release is declared stable by the dev team, or that it came out 15 months ago. When was it official Gentoo policy that you didn't make ebuilds for official releases of projects in portage? Why even bother with a package repository if you have no motivation to maintain it? Why consider yourself a maintainer of the games group if you're not going to maintain something? Again, there isn't a single other major distro that consistently fails to update packages for years. That isn't good enough for Gentoo. It is far easier to dismiss something out of hand before even reading a bug, let alone actually resolving one. Another tick-mark for the hardworking Gentoo dev team!
